28th-29th May 2016: Bicycle Tour Mostviertel-Danube Valley

Description: The Mostviertel, located in the northwestern quarter of Lower Austria, is known for its apple and pear cultures and the Most (English must) produced there. The land between the rivers Ybbs, Enns and Danube enjoy favorable conditions for growing fruit trees. We shall also pass by picturesque small towns like Enns, Grein and Ybbs. Overnight will be in a typical farmhouse in Wallsee, where we shall also have a look at a castle owned by successors of the Habsburg Family.

Route: Saturday: St. Valentin – Kronsdorf – Enns – Wallsee (overnight), ca.60km. Sunday: Wallsee – along the Danube to Grein – Ybbs – Melk. 60-70 km. The Region is slightly hilly, along the Danube mostly flat.

Meet: At 7:00 a.m. Wien Westbahnhof (U3, U6), lower hall, near ticket machines. Train (to Amstetten) departs at 7:20. From Amstetten at 9:07 to St. Valentin, Arrival at 9:39.

Return: Sunday evening by train from Melk, arriving Vienna at around 8 p.m.

Cost: Ca. EUR 30.- for Train ticket (sharing Einfach Raus) plus ferries (ca. EUR 5.), plus overnight (ca. EUR 40. B&B).

Registration: By Monday, 23 May, to leader.

Note: Make sure that your bicycle is in good order (extra tube). Clothing according to the weather, rainwear, Snacks, drink. Meals will be taken in Gasthauses.
