Hike Leader: Emil Wandzilak Class: Bicycle Ca. 40km

Description: Cycling for about 1.5 to 2 hours in each direction along the east side of the Danube river, on the Donau Island, mostly on asphalt. Last 3 or 4 km will be on a local road with some car traffic. Group should maintain an average pace of about 15 to 18 km per hour.

BEWARE: To reach the castle, the last 8 to 9 hundred meters require an accent of about 150 meters. This part of the ride will be challenging to difficult on a bike. Some participants may need to push the bike uphill.

Route: Donauinsel/ Reichsbrücke – Langenzersdorf – Tuttendörfl – Korneuburg – Leobendorf/Burg Kreuzenstein – Restaurant La Creperie (near Neue Donau U6 station) for early early dinner – Donauinsel/ Reichsbrücke

Meet: 12:00 at the Lighthouse tower (Leuchtturm), located near the Reichsbrücke on the Donauinsel and at 12:15 at the Neue Donau U6 station.

Return: depending on stay at La Creperie, after 17:30

Cost: 12 euros to visit castle with guide tour (available in German only) plus cost for your dinner and drinks.

Note: BRING A MASK FOR TOUR OF CASTLE. Guided tours normally start on the hour and last between 45 and 60 minutes, depending on the size of the group.

Bring a lock for your bike and plenty of water.

Description: We follow a no more existing railway line from Stammersdorf to Groß Engersdorf. On our way we will see old stations, modern sculptures made of railway material and get some information on the former railway line. From Groß Engersdorf we bike to Deutsch Wagram (lunch) and along the Marchfelkanal back to Vienna.

Description:
A beautiful and picturesque evening hike on Wilhelminenberg. You will get the chance to climb up the JubileumsWarte, the famous viewpoint of Vienna and walk along the panoramic trails above the forest of Neuwaldegg and the wineyards of Dornbach. The hike will end with some beers and great food in the Steierstöckl Schutzhaus/Heuriger near the Pötzleinsdorfer Castle Park.

The hike is approx. 8km/5mi

Ottakring – Steinhof Park – Jubilaumswarte – Neuwaldegg – Dornbach – Steierstöckl – Pötzleinsdorfer Schlosspark

If you have never heard of Frättingsdorf and its brickworks or Hörersdorf – this is your opportunity! Lots of shady woodland to walk through as well. See NOTE.

Frättingsdorf-Schlossleiten area-Hörersdorf.

Meet:
In the first carriage of the S7 from Wien Flughafen to Laa and der Thaya. This train leaves the airport at 09.19 and stops at all stations in Vienna on that line (e.g. Wien Mitte U4/U3 09.43, Floridsdorf U6 09.56, Leopoldau U1 10.03). Get a return to Frättingsdorf. Hike leader will get on at Handelskai.

Return:
By R29733 from Hörersdorf to Mödling, dep. 17.28. This train stops at all Viennese stations along that line (Leopoldau, Floridsdorf, Wien Mitte, Meidling, etc.).

Cost:
Full fare: EU 25.80.

Description: Hegerberg, 655m, is located on the Northwestern edge of the Vienna Woods From the summit there is a good view over the Tullner Becken as far as the Danube.

Route: Stössing – Kloster Hochstrass – Johann Enzinger Hütte (lunch) on the Hegerberg – Hummelberg – Furth – Böheimkirchen

Meet: Westbahnhof (U3/U6), lower hall, near ticket machines, at 8:40 a.m.; train (to St.Pölten) leaves at 8:54; arrives at Neulengbach at 9:33. By Taxibus to Stössing

Return: By train from Böheimkirchen at 5:14 p.m., arriving Wien Westbahnhof at 6:06 p.m.

Cost: Train and taxi EUR 15-20; exact price depending on numer of participants

In the first carriage of the S2 to Mistelbach. Train leaves Liesing at 17.00, stops at all Vienna stations on the line from Liesing to Leopoldau (U1 from VIC – 17.42). Hike leader will join the group at Handelskai.

By S7 (to Vienna Airport). Leaves Ulrichskirchen at 20.08. Leopoldau 20.28, Vienna Airport (just in case) 21.11. Train stops at all stations on that line.

Return full fare EU 11.80.

Description: Easy, almost flat walk along the Kamp and through the wonderful Waldviertel landscape. We will have a scenic view and guided tour in the castle of Rapottenstein (http://www.burg-rappottenstein.at/) and stay overnight at Ferienhof Stanzl (http://www.ferienhof-stanzl.at/). On the second day we will hike through meadows and woods to Schönbach and have lunch. The last part of the hike to Bad Traunstein has a smooth ascent of 200m. Those who are already tired can take the bus to Bad Traunstein.

Route: day 1: Zwettl – Kamptal – Rapottenstein (20 km)
day 2: Rapottenstein – Schönbach (lunch) – Bad Traunstein (19 km)
