Sunday, 18 October 2015: Nationalpark Thayatal, Hardegg - Retz
Description: The National Park Thayatal is situated in the Austrian borderland to the Czech Republic. The formerly restricted area north of the Thaya (Iron Curtain) had prevented the interference of men and preserved an untouched nature. We’ll walk along the river Thaya, cross impressive woodlands and reach numerous viewpoints, where we’ll enjoy fantastic views of the Thaya’s river bends.
Route: Hardegg (309 m), little town – Thayatalweg trail – Umlaufberg – Ruine Kaja (picnic) – Hofern – Retz (252 m)

Meet: 6:40 a.m. railway station Wien Praterstern/U1, U2, hall, ticket machines near the ÖBB travel center or Felber baker’s. Einfach-Raus-Ticket: for 2-5 persons € 36, – the whole day! Please group by five and buy it together.
R-train for Znojmo leaves at 7:02 (Wien Floridsdorf 7:11) arriving Retz 8:12. By bus from Retz to Hardegg (17 km). Hoping you will mutate to early birds. No other option for this hike!
Return: 6:30 pm. Wien Praterstern

Note: Please wear light hiking boots and bring anorak, rain gear, sunhat, snacks and drinks as there is no inn en route, but in Retz lots of nice wine taverns.
