Sunday, 26 April: Hainburger Berge, Botanic Excursion

Description: Exciting hike across the most easterly Austrian mountains. From the Königswarte summit we can see out over Slovakia, Hungary and Austria. Then we will discover some rare species of the “Pannonian Flora”. Now Austria’s steppe is in full flower. At lunch time we will visit a Heuriger which is a fortified farmhouse with a big tower in the courtyard, a relic of the frequent military conflicts in this border area.

Route: Wolfsthal (150 m) – ruin Pottenburg – Königswarte (344 m) – Hindlerberg – Hundsheim, lunch – Hundsheimer Berg (480 m) – Hainburg an der Donau (161 m)

Meet: 7:50 a.m. train station Wien Praterstern/U1,U2 hall; ticket machines near the OEBB travel centre or Felber baker’s . Einfach-Raus-Ticket : 2-5 persons for EUR 36, – a day. Please group by five and buy it together. Train for Wolfsthal dep. 8:11 arr. 9:31
