Weekend 12/13 September 2020, Hochschwab

Description: a compact introduction to the Hochschwab. Alpine rocky wilderness not too far from Vienna. Train from Vienna to Kapfenberg, then bus to Seewiesen (974 m MSL). From there, hike up to Voisthalerhütte (1654 m MSL). Overnight at Voisthalerhütte, an historical, rustic but charming hut (https://www.voisthalerhuette.com/). On Sunday, early rise to reach the Hochschwab peak, our highest point (2277 m MSL) through the Graf-Meran Steig (normal route). Afterwards, refreshments at Schiestelhaus and down to Seewiesen via the beautiful Jagermeier Steig.

Route: day 1: Seewiesen – Voisthalerhütte (C4, 700 meters). day 2: Voisthalerhütte – Hochschwab – Schiestelhaus – Voisthalerhütte – Seewiesen (D8, 600 meters up, 1300 meters down!).

Meet: saturday 11:40 Wien Hbf (train RJ 653 to Graz at 11:58)

Return: sunday approx. 8 pm at Wien Meidling or Wien Hbf

Cost: train, bus, overnight at Voisthalerhütte (ca. 100 eur in total) plus food. If you have a ÖBB discount card or an alpine club card, discounts apply.
