10-11 February 2018: Cross Country Skiing Wechselloipe
We stayed in the excellent Wellness Hotel Molzbachhof. We were really spoiled there with excellent Food (Genusspension), Swimming pool, Sauna, Transport to and from the Loipe, ticket for Loipe, hiring of Equipment. All These Services, plus room are included in their Price of EUR 75.- to 95.- (single room). On Saturday we skied from Steyersberger Schwaig to Marienseer Schwaig (unfortunately closed) and via Feistritzer Schwaig back to the starting point, ca. 16 km, 300m up and downhill. On Sunday we started again from Steyersberger Schwaig and took the very panoramic route to Feistritzsattel and from there the 10 km Loipe to Kummerbauerstadl, altogether 18 km, 300m up, 500m downhill. From Kummerbauer our host, Mr. Pichler, took us back to Molzbachhof in the shuttle bus. The weather was good on both days, more sunny on Sunday. Two participants decided for walking and snow shoe walking. It seems that everyone was happy.
Description: This high alpine Panorama Loipe is the most spectacular one in Lower Austria. There are more than 50 kms in an altitude between 1300 and 1600m. Because of the altitude the snow conditions are usually good. Please note that the Loipes are hilly, not suitable for beginners or less experienced. We shall stay at the Molzbachhof in Kirchberg, which is also a Wellness Centre.
Route: From Steyersberger Schweig we shall take various routes, e.g. to Marienseer Schweig and to Feistritzsattel; ca 15-20 km per day
Map: Wechsel – Semmering Panoramaloipe (can be obtained on the spot)
Meet: At 7:10 a.m. Bahnhof Wien Meidling, near the ticket machines; Train to Payerbach (we go to Gloggnitz) Reichenau departs at 7:29 a.m. From Gloggnitz Transport to Kirchberg am Wechsel will be provided. The other option is to travel in private cars. Please inform the tour leader if you wish to travel by car and also inform how many participants you could take.
Return: By Train from Edlitz Grimmenstein at 6:36 p.m.
Cost: Ca. EUR 20.- for Train/taxi; ca. EUR 80.- for half Pension (in single rooms) in very good Hotel (Molzbachhof); Price includes gourmet dinner, use of Sauna/Wellness area, Transport to and from Loipe, hiring of Equipment (if you need).
