26th October 2016: Naturpark Sparbach (Southern Vienna Woods)

Description: In the years after 1810 Prince Johann I. von Liechtenstein initiated the reafforrestation of the area around Mödling and arranged the layout of this romantic combination between landscape and park. In 1962 Sparbach became the first nature park in Austria. On our 3-4 hours leisurely walk we shall discover monuments and ruins as well as animals such as wild boars, donkeys, rabbits and others. From the hightst Point, 571m, we shall enjoy (hopefully) a great view over the Voralpen, if we are lucky as far as Schneeberg.

Route: Sparbach Naturpark Visitor Centre – Galerie der Wildtiere – Ruine Johannstein – Köhlerhausruine (571m) – Dianaquelle – Dianatempel – Fürstenföhre – and back to the Visitor Centre.
