8 August 2018: Evening walk around the Kahlenberg

Description:
We’ll have a go at what mountaineers call contouring: the flattest possible route around a mountain. With a couple of modifications to make walking as easy as possible at the height of summer.

Route:
Sulzwiese – Josephinenhütte – Muckental – Krapfenwaldl – Heuriger Obermann.

Map:
Österreichische Karte 1:50.000 Wien – Umgebung.

Meet:
In front of Heiligenstadt station, 18.00. SEE NOTE!

Return:
After 20.00, by bus 38A to Heiligenstadt.

Cost:
Local transport.

Registration:
By 6 August to the hike leader.

Note:
Due to construction work the U4 terminal is Spittelau rather than Heiligenstadt until late August. To get to Heiligenstadt: at Spittelau station follow the signs for Heiligenstädter Strasse, then take the D or E4 tram (same route direction Nussdorf) to Heiligenstadt 12 Februar Platz. The station is behind the arches of the housing block. This takes about 15 minutes. Similarly, the S45 isn’t running to Heiligenstadt from the direction of Hütteldorf either. Check the Wiener Linien website for alternative connections if you come from that direction.
