Class B 3 hours hiking

8 August: Wienerwald hike to source of Vienna River (Wienfluss)

Description:
Three hours of invigorating “forest bathing” (in the Japanese sense of shinrin-yoku) will include a visit to the source of the Vienna River (Wienfluss). When visiting the spring on 23 April 1882, Empress Elisabeth said the water was beneficial for “inner beauty” and regularly sent servants to collect the water for her morning coffee.
Along with fortifying their “inner beauty”, hikers will also have the opportunity to enjoy the homemade desserts at the Steinerhof, the first “legal property” recorded in 1637 in the Pfalzberg area of the Wienerwald. Josef Steiner started a Gasthaus that six generations of his family have maintained as a place to feed hungry travelers (and day-trippers from Vienna).

Route: Rekawinkel over Kaiserbründl and Pfalzberg to Pressbaum

Meet: Westbahnhof ticket machines at 11:00

Return: Pressbaum every hour

Cost: Not more than 12 Euro train tickets and cash for refreshments at Gasthaus Steinerhof

Registration: Before 7 August for those who want to reserve a place at Gasthaus Steinerhof. Anyone who shows up on 8 August is welcome to join the hike but they may need to sit under nearby trees and watch the rest of us enjoy freshly made food.

Note: Most of the hike is under the shade of trees but several hundred meters will be through meadows and the full force of August sunshine.
