Saturday 7 October - Walk, work and wine in the Wienerwald

Description:

Learn a lot about the logic of landscape protection in the Biosphere Reserve Wienerwald – by the sweat of your brow! Walk, work and Heuriger visit (!) organised in cooperation with the Biosphärenpark Wienerwald. We will do light overgrowth clearing (no special skills required) on a ‘Trockenwiese’ (semi-natural meadow) in the morning; after a sandwich lunch we will walk through the different zones of the Biosphere Reserve, with a staff member telling us about forest management, etc.

Route:

Gainfarn -Manhartstal – Gainfarn.

Meet:

Wien Meidling station hall 07.50, R2315 train to Wiener Neustadt leaves at 08.07. Get a single to Bad Vöslau. You can also board this train at all other stations in Vienna, from Leopoldau (d. 07.23) to Liesing (d. 08.13). Please let me know at which station you will board. We will meet in the first carriage of the train.

Return:

Between 18.00 and 19.00, to any station in Vienna.

Cost:

Train to Bad Vöslau and back, full fare EU 13.20 from Meidling.

Registration:

October 4 latest to the hike leader. Minimum number of participants: 5.

Note:

Bring packed lunch and garden or work gloves, plus secateurs (a pruner) or a folding saw if you have one. Additional equipment will be provided.
